Holiday at Zanzibar – The ideal way to drench into African culture
Drench yourself in a fascinating blend of African, Arabian, Indian and European culture here at Zanzibar on Africa’s eastern coast. Visit its lovely seashores as well.
The exotic island of Zanzibar has seen human civilization for over 20,000 years. See the UNESCO World Heritage site of Stone Town, with centuries of mixed history of Swahili, Arabian, Indian and European societies. Unwind on seashores with delicate white sand and clear blue waters.
Many Stone Town structures developed here during the 1700s and 1800s. See architecture made of coralline rag-stone and wood from the territory’s mangroves. The Old Fort overlooks the Indian Ocean, based on the site where a Portuguese church once stood. Alongside it is the House of Wonders, lodging the Beit El-Ajaib National Museum. Look up at its wide verandas and envision its days as the manor of a well off sultan. Before these structures, walk around the walkways in Forodhani Gardens, where anglers and artisans display their items.
Stroll to the Anglican Church to find out about the locale’s past as a Slave Market. Inside are displays depicting this history just as a dedication to David Livingstone, the preacher, voyager and enthusiastic abolitionist. Outside is the work of art Memory for the Slaves, portraying five slaves in chains.
Travel north to Nungwi, which has one of the island’s preferred spots for sun and sand, Nungwi Beach. Visit the Mnarani Natural Aquarium, where local occupants and moderates have built up an inside to safeguard and support hawksbill and green turtles and discharge them to the sea each February. Go through a month or increasingly here as a volunteer or swim with the turtles in a secured tidal pond during a day trip.
Paje Beach on the eastern coast has outrageous tides, bringing about extended lengths of sand when the tide is out. Lease gear to attempt kite surfing. You can scuba close to Mnemba Island off the northeastern shore.
Ship to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam in around 2 hours or fly to Zanzibar International Airport, around a 15-minute drive south of Stone Town. Lease a vehicle to travel helpfully around this moderately little island.
