The 65km long Rongai Route is the only route which approaches Kilimanjaro from north and takes 6 days. Apart from being the quietest route with lesser travelers, it also has the most gentle elevation gain with easy ascent. The Rongai Route eventually joins the Marangu Route at Kibo Hut. Rongai Route has superb summit success rate making it ideal not only for couples but also for families. Needless to mention, that the route provides magnificent views of mount Kilimanjaro along with picturesque landscape.

DAY 1: RONGAI GATE TO SIMBA CAMP (7KM)

After a briefing at Moshi, our vehicle would take you to Rongai Gate from where the trek starts. It takes almost 3 hours of trekking to cover the seven kilometers to reach our first stop at Simba Camp. The way up to Simba Camp is filled with beautiful forests and you could see some arborial monkey every now and then. When you reach Simba Camp, you are greeted with the serene view hiding in itself the beautiful glimpse of Kilimanjaro.

 

DAY 2: SIMBA CAMP TO SECOND CAVE (8KM)

As you wake up to beautiful morning view at Simba Camp, you head towards Second Cave which is the next spot to spend the night. On reaching Second Cave, you take little rest along with lunch before trekking to a higher altitude and returning back to Second Cave camp. This is especially done to acclimatize your body to higher altitude. The night is spent in the Second Cave camp.

 

DAY 3: SECOND CAVE TO KIKELELWA CAMP (5KM)

Day 3 begins with a delicious breakfast at Second Cave Camp before we head towards our next destination, the Kikekekwa Camp at an elevation of 3600m. It is a three hour hike as you make your way through the beautiful moorlands and sporadic waterfall.

 

DAY 4: KIKELELWA CAMP TO MAWENZI TARN HUT (3KM)

As we wake up at Kikelelwa Camp at 3600m, we begin our trek to Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4315m). It is a mere distance of 3km but it takes around 4 to 5 hours to trek up to Mawenzi Camp as it is a steep hike. As you walk through the alpine forest, you gain an around 700m and before you realize, you would be amidst the sea of clouds.

 

DAY 5: MAWENZI TARN HUT TO KIBO HUT (11KM)

From Mawenzi Tarn Hut, we head to our base camp at Kibo Hut. There is an elevation gain of 400m and we stop at the School Hut at 4600m for lunch. After lunch we head straight to our final and last camp at Kibo Hut at an altitude of 4720m. Trekkers are advised to sleep early as midnight marks the final trek to the summit.

 

DAY 6: KIBO HUT TO UHURU PEAK (6KM)

Our tour team would wake you up at 12 in midnight to begin our final trek to the summit. As the hiking begins at midnight, you would finally reach the Uhuru Peak at the break of the dawn. After 15 to 20 minutes of rejoicing on Africa’s highest point, it would be time to retreat to our base camp at Kibo Hut. After lunch and an hour of rest at Kibo Hut, we would start our hike down to Horombo Hut where we spent the night.

 

DAY 7: HOROMBO HUT TO MARANGO GATE (19KM)

We wake up at Horombo Hut camp at 3720m, where breakfast is served along with tea. There is little bit of dance and music trivia by the guides and porters before you hit the trek to Marango Gate at 1897m. Our journey ends at Marango Gate with you getting the certificate for you conquest to Kilimanjaro.
